Let’s start off with some trivia:
What is the difference between the Leawood Civic Association, “LCA”, and
the Leawood Metropolitan Recreation and Park
District, “LMRPD”? Well the LMRPD is funded by your property taxes
whereas the LCA is funded solely by your membership donations and run by
volunteers! The Leawood Civic Association brings a vibrant sprit to
Leawood by sponsoring neighborhood holiday events and other activities,
coordinating your interests with the county and the Park Board,
maintaining the Jay Ct entrance and not to mention providing this
newsletter and LeawoodNeighbors.com. The good news is that membership
dues are not going up, the bad news is that memberships in 2008 and 2009
were the lowest ever, even at a nominal $20 per year!
The effects of
decreased membership materialized when we were unable to rebuild both
entrance signs and had to cut back on activities such as the Annual
Leawood Picnic. Prudence has required us to streamline the association
and look for ways to increase memberships. One resident drove by while
we were re-landscaping at the Jay Ct. entrance sign and wanted to donate
more money. That gave us an idea. Generally there are several activities
that require additional fees so for those that are willing to increase
their donations we will start waiving those fees!
Your support of the Leawood community
can be expressed by
becoming a paid member of the Leawood Civic Association.
As a voluntary
association our strength depends on residents joining
and participating. Your money goes a long way to help
keep our neighborhood a popular and fun place to live.
Memberships start at $20/year with increased benefits
for higher donations. The value is tremendous.
However we can also use your time, please let us know if
you can help in any way as a volunteer or as an actual LCA Board member. The LCA Board welcomes your
input and encourages your attendance at our board
meetings. The LCA is more active and
involved than ever! If you are interested in
other civic or recreational activities please
contact us or attend our next meeting! Thank you for your support! ~LCA Board

-We Need Your Help!
Our Board has had a hard time doing everything that is expected of us
and we could use your help! As a voluntary association having active members is
critical. We're always looking for new board members! Not only do we
want your input, we need help with the activities and other LCA
endeavors, such as the Jay Court entrance maintenance, website
updates, newsletter, photos and event recapping, event coordination
and so on. We are also the
largest group in the Leawood Parks District and as such work with
them closely to promote our best interests. Please attend our
monthly LCA meetings! You do not have to call ahead, just show up.
Even if you are not an LCA member and you just want to be more
informed feel free to attend. The meetings are held on the first
Tuesday of each month at the Re/Max office in the Wells Fargo
building just across from South West Plaza at 7pm. Contact any board
member for details or check the
calendar for
details.
